1.  Remove the bearing race and adjustment shim from the converter housing using the SST.

b3e0517a186

2.  Install the bearing race to the transaxle case.

d6e517za5066

3.  Set the differential on the transaxle case.

d6e517za5062

4.  Install the bearing race removed in Step 1 to the differential.

5.  Install the SST to the differential.

b3e0517a190

6.  Rotate parts A and B of the SST and eliminate the gap indicated by the arrow in the figure.

d6j517za4164

7.  Install the SSTs (6 collars) to the positions shown in the figure.

b3e0517a191

8.  Set the converter housing on the transaxle case and tighten the SSTs (bolts).

d6j517za4171

Tightening torque
19—25 N·m {1.9—2.6 kgf·m, 14—18 ft·lbf}

9.  To allow the bearing to drop, rotate the SST (selector) until it no longer moves using the SST (bar), and widen the gap indicated by the arrow in figure.

d6j517za4165

10.  Rotate the SST (selector) back and reduce the gap.

11.  Insert the SST (preload adapter) from the converter housing and install the pinion shaft.

12.  Install the SST (preload attachment) and the torque wrench.

Note
•  Measure the preload value at the time the differential first rotated.

13.  Adjust the SST (selector) clearance using the SSTs (bars) so that the preload value is as follows:

Differential bearing preload
2.2 N·m {22 kgf·cm, 19 in·lbf}
d6e517za5065
d6j517za4165
Note
•  Measure with the gap of the SST (shim selector) spanning the entire perimeter.

14.  Measure the gap as indicated by the arrow in the figure.

b3e0517a196

Note
•  The number of adjustment shims to be used is 3 or less.

15.  Select adjustment shims which match the gap measured in Step 14.

18.  Assemble the converter housing to the transaxle case.

Tightening torque
19—25 N·m {1.9—2.6 kgf·m, 14—18 ft·lbf}

19.  Insert the SST (preload adapter) from the converter housing and install the pinion shaft.

20.  Verify that the preload is within the specification.

Differential bearing preload
1.7—2.7 N·m {18—27 kgf·cm, 16—23 in·lbf}

21.  If not within the specification, repeat from Step 1.

22.  Remove the converter housing.
