Engine Tune-up Preparation

1.  Start the engine and warm up completely.

2.  Verify that the gear is in neutral position.

3.  Verify that the accelerator pedal is released.

4.  Turn off the A/C switch.

5.  Turn off all electrical loads.

6.  Verify that no DTC is present.

7.  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

8.  Wait until the electrical fan stops.

Idle Speed Inspection

1.  Perform “Engine Tune-up Preparation”. (See Engine Tune-up Preparation.)

2.  Monitor the RPM PID using the M-MDS.

3.  Verify that engine speed is within specification.

•  If not as specified, inspect the following.

―  Suction control valve

―  Fuel injector

―  Accelerator position sensor

―  ECT sensor

―  Fuel pressure sensor

―  CMP sensor

―  CKP sensor

Correction Procedure

Injection amount correction

Note

•  Perform this procedure at the recommended interval as described under “Fuel injection system” in “SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE.”

•  Perform this procedure after replacing the fuel injector.

Using M-MDS

Note

•  Perform procedure by selecting the corresponding menu on the M-MDS screen.

1.  Perform “Engine Tune-up Preparation”. (See Engine Tune-up Preparation.)

2.  After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initial screen of the M-MDS.

•  When using the IDS (laptop PC)

1.  Select the “Toolbox” tab.

2.  Select the “Powertrain”.

3.  Select the “Engine Checks”.

•  When using the PDS (Pocket PC)

1.  Select the “All Tests and Calibrations”.

3.  Then, select the “Learning” and the “Injection Amount Correction” and then perform the procedures according to directions on the M-MDS screen.

4.  Retrieve DTCs using the M-MDS, then verify if DTCs are present.

•  If a DTC is present, perform the applicable DTC inspection.

Without using M-MDS

1.  Start the engine.

2.  Repeatedly ground the test terminal 5 times within 5 seconds using a jumper wire.

―  If the glow indicator light does not illuminate, return to procedure 2.

Note

•  When the fuel injector injection amount correction is completed, the glow indicator light flashes 5 times.
