1.  Assemble the SST (49 M005 561) to the SST (49 0107 680A).

2.  Install the transfer component to the SST.

Part number: 9YA02 A242A or M12 x 1.25 bolt (length 42 mm), and nut (M12 × 1.25)
64—89 N·m {6.6—9.0 kgf·m, 48—65 ft·lbf}

3.  Remove the drain plug and washer.

4.  Remove the oil level plug and washer.

5.  Remove the breather.

6.  Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the notch of the transfer and remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.1.

7.  Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the lip area of the transfer oil seal (RH) No.2 as shown in the figure and remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.2.

8.  Insert a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver into the lip area of the transfer oil seal (LH) as shown in the figure and remove the transfer oil seal (LH).

9.  Install the SSTs to the transfer component as shown in the figure.

10.  Tighten the bolts on the left and right of the SSTs and apply pressure to the ring gear shaft component.

11.  Remove the drive gear case installation bolts (2 large, 10 small).

12.  Remove the drive gear case using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

Caution
•  When removing the drive gear case, the ring gear shaft component comes off with the case and could drop and be damaged. Perform the drive gear case removal carefully.

13.  Remove the baffle plate.

14.  Remove the ring gear shaft component.

15.  Remove the SSTs.

16.  Remove the following parts from the ring gear shaft component. (With tapered roller bearing)

•  Adjustment shim (RH)
•  Adjustment shim (LH)
•  Bearing outer race (RH)
•  Bearing outer race (LH)

17.  Remove the following parts from the ring gear shaft component. (With ball bearings/tandem ball bearings)

•  Adjustment shim (RH)
•  Adjustment shim (LH)

18.  Fix the toothed part of the ring gear in a vise to secure the ring gear shaft.

19.  Remove the transfer oil seal (RH) No.3 using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

20.  Remove the bearing inner race using the following procedure. (With tapered roller bearing)

(1)  Remove the bearing inner race (LH) using the SST and a steel plate.

(2)  Fix the toothed part of the ring gear in a vise to secure the ring gear shaft.
(3)  Remove the bearing inner race (RH) using the SST.

21.  Remove the ball bearing using the following procedure. (With ball bearing/tandem ball bearing)

(1)  Remove the ball bearing (LH) using the SST and a steel plate.

(2)  Fix the toothed part of the ring gear in a vise to secure the ring gear shaft.
(3)  Remove the bearing outer race (RH) using the SST.

(4)  Remove the bearing inner race (RH) using the SST.

22.  Secure the companion flange using the SST and remove the locknut.

Note
•  If the nuts for installing the propeller shaft are used when installing the SST to the companion flange, install the SST through an appropriate washer because the nut diameter is small.

23.  Remove the washer.

24.  Remove the companion flange component using the SST.

25.  Install a locknut to the thread area of the drive pinion gear.

26.  Lightly tap the locknut with a copper hammer and remove the drive pinion gear component.

27.  Remove the oil seal using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

28.  Remove the bearing inner race (rear).

29.  Set the brass bar to the bearing outer race (front) end surface at the notches of the front carrier in two locations. Lightly tap the end surfaces of the outer race alternately using the brass bar and hammer, and remove the bearing outer race (front).

30.  Set the brass bar to the bearing outer race (rear) end surface at the notches of the front carrier in two locations. Lightly tap the end surfaces of the outer race alternately using the brass bar and hammer, and remove the bearing outer race (rear).

31.  Remove the collapsible spacer.

32.  Remove the bearing inner race (front) using the SST and a press, and a steel plate.
