DESCRIPTION
|
• Engine speed increase delays when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE
|
• PCM DTC is stored.
• Erratic signal to PCM
• Brake dragging
• ATX malfunction (ATX)
• Air cleaner malfunction (non-genuine part installed)
• Intake air system malfunction (air suction, leakage, perforation)
• Intake shutter valve malfunction (stuck)
• Improper operation of compressor bypass solenoid valve malfunction
• Improper operation of regulating solenoid valve malfunction
• Improper operation of wastegate solenoid valve malfunction
• Turbocharger malfunction
• Clogging of each exhaust system component (catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter)
• A/C relay malfunction
• Fuel injection system malfunction
• Poor fuel quality
• Mechanical (engine) malfunction

• Retrieve TCM DTCs using the M-MDS.
• Are any DTCs present?

VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM RELATED TO ATX
• Verify the malfunction symptom related to the ATX.
• Is a malfunction occurring which is applicable to the symptom diagnostic index?

Yes

Go to the applicable symptom troubleshooting.

No
|
Go to the next step.

INSPECT AIR CLEANER FOR NON-GENUINE AIR CLEANER INSTALLATION
• Remove the non-genuine air cleaner.
• Verify the symptom.
• Does the symptom disappear?

Yes

Explain to the customer that a malfunction occurred due to the installation of a non-genuine air cleaner.
• Go to Step 24.
|
No
|
Install the removed parts correctly, then go to the next step.

INSPECT INTAKE AIR SYSTEM
• Visually inspect for air suction, leakage and perforation in the intake air system.
• Is the intake air system normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to Step 24.

INSPECT INTAKE SHUTTER VALVE CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION
• Perform the Intake Shutter Valve Operation Inspection.
• Is there any malfunction?

No

INSPECT COMPRESSOR BYPASS SOLENOID VALVE
• Inspect the compressor bypass solenoid valve.
• Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Replace the compressor bypass solenoid valve, then go to Step 24.

INSPECT REGULATING SOLENOID VALVE
• Inspect the regulating solenoid valve.
• Is there any malfunction?

• Inspect the wastegate solenoid valve.
• Is there any malfunction?

VERIFY TURBOCHARGER INSTALLATION CONDITION
• Verify the large-type and small-type turbocharger installation conditions.
• Are the turbocharger installation conditions normal?

INSPECT TURBOCHARGER
• Inspect the turbocharger.
• Is the turbocharger normal?

Yes

INSPECT A/C RELAY
• Switch the ignition off.
• Remove the A/C relay.
• Inspect the A/C relay.

• Is the A/C relay normal?

Replace the A/C relay, then go to Step 24.

INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAKAGE FROM FUEL SYSTEM
• Visually inspect the following:
• Are all items normal?

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to Step 24.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTION RELATED PARTS
• Inspect the following parts:
• Are all items normal?

INSPECT FOR MALFUNCTION DUE TO POOR FUEL
• Replace the fuel.
• Does the symptom disappear?

Yes

Advise the customer as to the change in the fuel used.

Remove the accumulated matter in the cylinder head using the following procedure, then go to the next step.
• Carbon remover
• Overhauling

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION IS DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE SPEED RESISTANCE
• Rotate the crankshaft pulley lock bolt clockwise using a wrench.
• Can bolts be rotated?

Yes

INSPECT FOR MALFUNCTION DUE TO EXCESSIVE MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OF ENGINE ACCESSORIES
• Remove all drive belts from engine accessories.
• Start the engine.
• Is cranking possible? (Does the engine start?)

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to Step 24. (Large mechanical resistance in engine accessories.)

No

INSPECT ENGINE COMPRESSION
• Inspect the engine compression.
• Are compression pressures within specification?

INSPECT FOR MALFUNCTION DUE TO DEVIATED VALVE TIMING
• Inspect the valve timing (timing chain installation condition).
• Is the valve timing normal?

Adjust the valve timing to the correct timing, then go to Step 24.

INSPECT IDEVA
• Inspect the IDEVA.
• Is the IDEVA normal?

INSPECT FOR MALFUNCTION DUE TO INTERNAL ENGINE WEAR, DAMAGE
• Inspect for the following engine internal parts:
• Are all items normal?

Yes

Replace the lower case, then go to the next step. (Fuel may not inject normally because there is a malfunction in the fuel check valve and fuel feed valve.)

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to the next step.

VERIFY SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
• Verify the symptom.
• Does the symptom disappear?

Yes

Symptom troubleshooting is completed. (Explain contents of repair to customer.)

Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
• If the malfunction recurs, diesel particulate filter or catalytic converter restriction can be considered the cause.

Verify the test results.
• If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
• If a malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
