Purpose, Function
• The EGR cooler cools the exhaust gas recirculated to the variable geometry turbocharger.
• By cooling the recirculated exhaust gas, a greater amount of exhaust gas can be recirculated due to the reduced volume. As a result, the combustion temperature of the exhaust gas recirculated to the combustion chamber is suppressed, and the NOx generated largely when the combustion temperature is high is reduced.
Construction
• The EGR cooler is located at the rear of the engine compartment.
• The EGR cooler consists of the exhaust gas recirculation passage and engine coolant passage.
• The EGR cooler has an integrated filter.
