STEERING WARMER CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning

•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

Note

•  When removing the driver-side air bag module, it is necessary to rotate the steering wheel. If the ignition has been switched off with the driver's door closed, the steering wheel will be locked. Perform the procedure from Steps 1-3 so that the steering wheel will not be locked.

1.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

2.  Open the driver's door.

3.  Switch the ignition off.

4.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5].) 5.  Remove the following parts:

(1)  Driver-side air bag module (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL.) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION.)

(2)  Steering switch (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3)  Steering wheel bezel (See STEERING WHEEL BEZEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4)  Steering wheel (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5)  Steering shift switch. (With steering shift switch) (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FW6A-EL].) (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6A-EL].) (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [CW6A-EL].) (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [EW6A-EL].)

6.  While pressing the tabs of the steering wheel cover in the direction of arrows (1) shown in the figure, press the steering wheel cover in the direction of arrow (2) to detach the tabs of the steering wheel cover from the steering wheel.

7.  Disconnect the steering warmer control unit connector.

8.  Remove the screws.

9.  Remove the steering warmer control unit wiring harness from the hook of the steering wheel cover.

10.  Remove the steering warmer control unit.

11.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
