ACTIVE AIR SHUTTER
id092300000300
Purpose, Function
• The active air shutter opens/closes the shutter based on the open/close signal from the PCM. In addition, the active air shutter sends the current position of the shutter to the PCM.
Construction
-
Caution
-
• The active air shutter cannot be disassembled. If the active air shutter is disassembled, the active air shutter system will not operate correctly. Therefore do not disassemble.
• The active air shutter consists of the following parts.
-
― Shutter (9)
― Shaft-integrated shutter (1)
― Link connecting individual shutters
― Actuator which drives shaft-integrated shutter
― Frame assembling shutter and actuator together
― Cover
― Bracket
• A Hall sensor, which detects the current position, and the LIN driver, which performs communication with the PCM, are built into the actuator.
Operation
1. When the open/close signal from the PCM is received, the active air shutter operates the actuator (1).
2. When the actuator operates, the shaft-integrated shutter rotates (2).
3. When the shaft- integrated shutter rotates, the link activates to rotate the remaining shutters simultaneously (3).
4. The actuator detects the opening angle of the shutter using the Hall sensor and sends the current position signal of the shutter to the PCM (4).
• The shutter fully opens when the ignition is switched off.
• The shutter fully closes when the ignition is switched ON (engine running) and a shutter close signal is received.
• When the ignition is switched ON (engine on) and a shutter open signal is received, the shutter opens to the position 66° from the fully closed position to facilitate air flow to the radiator and condenser.
Fail-safe
• If communication with the PCM is interrupted, the active air shutter operates the actuator to open the shutter to the fully open position.
-
Note
-
• If the vehicle continues to be driven with the active air shutter in a fully closed condition, air will not contact the radiator and condenser, and the engine coolant temperature and ATF temperature will increase. To prevent overheating from an excessive rise in temperatures, the active air shutter opens the shutter to the fully open position if communication with the PCM is interrupted.
