RCTA INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT FLASHES WHILE UNDER RCTA INDICATOR LIGHT-FLASHING CONDITIONS [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) SYSTEM (Australian specs.)]

id1503b2014200

Description
RCTA indicator light does not flash under flash conditions
•  The RCTA indicator light does not flash even though under RCTA indicator light flash conditions (R position (ATX)/R gear (MTX), and target vehicle detection).
Possible Causes
Note
•  The detection performance of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module has limitations and the blind spot monitoring (BSM) system may not operate normally. For the detection performance limitations, refer to the [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE [Australian specs.]] in the technical guide.
•  Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module mis-detects another vehicle or mis-estimates the time that another vehicle will reach the detection line
―  Deviation of radar emission direction in blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (emits radar outside of blind spot, or to adjacent lane)
•  Damage, deformity or looseness of vehicle frame (including moderate impacts)
•  Incorrect installation of rear bumper, soiling of radar emitting/receiving area, application of stickers (including transparent types), repairs using putty application
―  Effect of non-genuine, after-market electronic device installation
Note
•  If there is a thick moisture film (such as condensation) on the rear bumper, the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module may not receive echo-back correctly.
•  The blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module may not receive echo-back correctly due to the negative effect of a non-genuine bumper or paint, or installation of after-market parts.
•  RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction
―  Audio unit (with color LCD display) internal malfunction (RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction)
―  Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH) internal malfunction (RCTA indicator light flash circuit malfunction)
―  Blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module (LH) malfunction (mistaken flash request output)

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS RCTA INDICATOR LIGHT
•  Verify the flash of the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warning light.
•  Does the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warning light flash under RCTA indicator light flash conditions?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the symptom troubleshooting BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHILE UNDER BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) WARNING LIGHT-ILLUMINATION CONDITIONS [BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM)].
2
VERIFY BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE DTCs
•  Retrieve the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
3
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS AUDIO UNIT
•  When the RCTA indicator light is under flashing conditions, does the blind spot monitoring (BSM) warning light flash?
Yes
Replace the audio unit.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE
•  Inspect the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module on the side that is malfunctioning.
•  Is the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module normal?
Yes
The possibility that the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module was temporarily unable to receive echo-back correctly can be considered.
If the same symptom recurs repeatedly, replace the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.
No
Replace the blind spot monitoring (BSM) control module.
