Fuel refill concerns

DESCRIPTION
•  Fuel filler nozzle shuts off prematurely.
•  Fuel loss after nozzle shutoff or during refilling.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Fuel leakage
•  Electrical connector, wiring harness or component damaged
•  Loose installation fuel gauge sender unit
•  Fuel gauge improper indication.
•  Fuel tank filler pipe blocked.
•  Fuel tank filler pipe collapsed.
•  Fuel tank filler pipe leaking.
•  Fuel tank ventilation pipe blocked.
•  Fuel tank ventilation pipe collapsed.
•  Fuel tank leaking.
•  Fuel tank ventilation pipe leaking.
•  Fuel filler nozzle at fuel filling station not functioning correctly.
•  Inadequate fuel filling speed

VISUALLY INSPECT RELATED PART CONDITION
•  Visually inspect the following:
Mechanical:
―  Fuel level
―  Fuel system leaks (Fuel line(s), Fuel filter, Fuel tank, Fuel tank ventilation pipe, Fuel tank filler pipe)
Electrical:
―  Electrical connector(s)
―  Wiring harness
―  Fuel level sensor
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
Repeat Step 1.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY FUEL GAUGE INDICATION
•  Verify indication of fuel gauge indicator light.
•   Is the fuel gauge indicator light normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the symptom troubleshooting “NO. 1 FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR LIGHT INDICATION IS INCORRECT”.

INSPECT FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE
•  Inspect the fuel pipe filler pipe.
•  Is there any poor installation, collapsed and/or blocked?
Yes
Install correctly or replace fuel filler pipe.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL TANK VENTILATION PIPE
•  Inspect the fuel pipe ventilation pipe.
•   Is there any poor installation, collapsed and/or blocked?
Yes
Install correctly or replace ventilation pipe.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT NON-RETURN VALVE
•  Inspect the non-return valve.
•  Is the non-return valve normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the fuel tank.

INSPECT FUEL TANK
•  Inspect the fuel tank
•  Is the fuel tank normal?
Yes
Inspect the following:
•  Improper use of fuel nozzle
•  Inadequate fuel filling speed
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
No
Replace the fuel tank.

Verify test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
•  If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, reprogram the PCM if a later calibration is available. Retest.
