DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES

DESCRIPTION
•  Diesel particulate filter indicator light flashes because the diesel particulate filter system can not dispose of diesel particulate
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Driving condition is not in diesel particulate filter regeneration condition
•  Diesel particulate filter is not regenerated by manual regeneration procedure
•  Diesel particulate filter damaged or deterioration
•  Erratic signal input to PCM
―  Exhaust gas pressure sensor signal
―  Exhaust system restriction or clogging
•  PCM does not realize the diesel particulate trap amount in diesel particulate filter

Diagnostic Procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

RESULTS

ACTION

1
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Switch the ignition to ON.
Retrieve any DTCs.
Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
DTC P242F:00, P2458:00, P2459:00, P2463:00 or P253F:00 is displayed:
Go to the next Step.
Other DTC is displayed:
Go to the appropriate DTC test.
Communication error message is displayed:
Inspect the following:
•  Open circuit between main relay and PCM terminal 2C or 2F
•  Open circuit main relay and PCM terminal 2I
•  Main relay stuck open
•  Open or poor ground circuit (PCM terminal 2B, 2E, 2A or 2D)
•  Poor connection to vehicle body ground
No
No DTC is displayed:
Go to the next step.
2
Inspect the engine oil level.
Is the engine oil level above the X line on dipstick?
Yes
Replace the specified engine oil.
Perform the engine oil data reset procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
3
Inspect the exhaust system for restriction and clogging.
Is there any restriction or clogging detected?
Yes
Repair or replace suspect part.
No
Go to the next step.
4
Monitor the PM_ACC, PM_GEN and PM_ACC_DSD PIDs using the M-MDS.
Are monitored values 10 g/L {0.6 lb/ft3} or less?
Yes
Go to Step 8.
No
If each PIDs value are 13 g/L {0.82 lb/ft3} or less;
Go to the next step.
If each PIDs value are above 13 g/L {0.82 lb/ft3};
Go to the next step.
5
Monitor the PM_ACC, PM_GEN and PM_ACC_DSD PIDs using the M-MDS.
Is one of the PID monitored value 17 g/L {1.07 lb/ft3} or less?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the oxidation catalytic converter, then go to Step 11.
6
Perform the following;
•  Fuel injector injection amount correction
•  Diesel particulate filter regeneration
Go to the next step.
7
Verify that the diesel particulate filter indicator light condition.
Does the diesel particulate filter indicator light flash?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 11.
8
Perform diesel particulate filter regeneration procedure.
Go to the next step.
9
Perform diesel particulate filter assessment procedure.
Does diesel particulate filter assessment procedure operate properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Reinspect from Step 1.
10
Clear the DTC from PCM memory.
Verify the diesel particulate filter indicator light condition.
Does the diesel particulate filter indicator light flash?
Yes
Go to Step 1.
No
Troubleshooting completed, go to the next step.
11
Verify test results.
•  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
•  If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
―  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
―  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, reprogram the PCM if later calibration is available. Retest.
