FUEL METERING VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6]

Warning

•  This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

•  Wait at least one minute after the engine stops before commencing any repair to the fuel injection system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

Caution

•  Diesel fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always install blanking plugs to any open orifices or lines.

•  Always carry out the cleaning process before carrying out any repairs to the fuel injection system components to prevent foreign matter ingress to the components.

Note

•  If the fuel metering valve is replaced, complete the “HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM LEARNED VALUES RESET“. (See HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM LEARNED VALUES RESET [MZ-CD 1.6].)

1.  Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

Caution

•  Using a degreaser spray, clean the area around the fuel metering valve.

•  Be careful not to drop the bolts and O-rings while performing the removal.

•  To prevent dust/debris penetration into the supply pump, work with clean, bare hands.

•  Turn and pull the fuel metering valve simultaneously by hand and remove it.

•  Do not pull the fuel metering valve by twisting or prying it out with a tool. Otherwise, deformation or damage to the valve or to the supply pump may occur.

3.  Remove the fuel metering valve.

Caution

•  Verify that the seals are correctly located.

•  Insert the fuel metering valve straight into the supply pump. Otherwise, deformation or damage to the valve or the supply pump may occur.

4.  Install the fuel metering valve.

5.  Connect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)

6.  Install the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZ-CD 1.6].)
