5
Detects vehicle speed of 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more
DESCRIPTION
•  Parking sensor detects obstruction while in position other than R position and at a speed other than 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
•  Vehicle speed signal malfunction
―  Open circuit in wiring harness between instrument cluster terminal 2O and parking sensor control module terminal Y.
―  Short to power supply or ground in wiring harness between instrument cluster terminal 2O and parking sensor control module terminal Y.
―  Instrument cluster malfunction
―  Vehicle speed signal output to instrument cluster malfunction
•  Parking sensor control module malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SPEEDOMETER VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL INPUT RELATED
•  Verify the speedometer display.
•  Does the speedometer indicate the actual vehicle speed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
For instrument cluster malfunctions, perform the procedure in “NO. 8 SPEEDOMETER INDICATION IS DEFECTIVE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER]”.
2
PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE TERMINAL INSPECTION
•  Verify the connection condition of parking sensor control module connector terminal Y (bad contact, bad connection).
•  Is the connection normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunction location.
3
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS OPEN CIRCUIT IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the parking sensor control module and instrument cluster connectors.
•  Verify if there is continuity between parking sensor control module Y terminal and instrument cluster terminal 2O.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the open circuit in the wiring harness.
4
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SHORT TO GROUND IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Leave the parking sensor control module and instrument cluster connectors disconnected.
•  Verify if there is continuity between the parking sensor control module terminal Y and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair for a short to the wiring harness ground.
No
Go to the next step.
5
VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING SENSOR CONTROL MODULE AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
•  Leave the parking sensor control module and instrument cluster connectors disconnected.
•  Switch the ignition to ON.
•  Measure the voltage between the parking sensor control module terminal Y and body ground.
•  Is the voltage 5 V or more?
Yes
Repair for a short to the wiring harness power supply.
No
Replace the parking sensor control module.
