AFS (ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM) CONTROL MODULE

• Calculates the target optical axis based on the vehicle height signal and outputs the target optical axis signal to the headlight leveling actuator.

• The AFS control module controls the headlight auto leveling system based on the vehicle height signal, vehicle speed signal, and the headlight on signal.

• Furthermore, a self-diagnostic function is equipped which indicates a malfunctioning area of the headlight auto leveling system by the output pattern using the AFS OFF indicator light. Also, if a malfunction occurs in the headlight auto leveling system, a fail-safe function is equipped which stops control of the optical axes of the discharge headlights and illuminates or flashes the AFS OFF indicator light.

• Assembled to the dashboard member.

• Consists of a microcomputer which calculates the target optical axis from the input signal, and a power driver which supplies stable power to the auto leveling sensor and microcomputer.

1. The AFS control module calculates the amount of vehicle inclination based on the vehicle height signal from the auto leveling sensor when the ignition is switched ON. It also calculates the vehicle speed based on the vehicle speed signal from the instrument cluster to determine whether the vehicle is stopped or being driven.

2. The AFS control module calculates the average value of the vehicle inclination amount and the target optical axis after the ignition is switched ON and a headlight on signal is received.

3. The AFS control module outputs the target optical axis signal to the headlight leveling actuator.

• If the following malfunctions are detected, the fail-safe function operates.
