Purpose

•  The intelligent drive master (i-DM) is a system which informs the driver of the driving status and diagnosis of day-to-day driving so that the driver can improve his or her driving, turning, and stopping technique and provide driving enjoyment and comfort for the driver and passengers.

Function

•  Based on the i-DM control status signal and i-DM diagnosis signal sent from the PCM via the CAN signal, the i-DM displays the driver's driving status in the instrument cluster and the diagnosis in the multi information display.
•  Display of the driving status can be canceled using the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS). (See INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO. PERSONALIZATION.)

Driving status

•  The i-DM control status signal indicates the driver's driving status which is determined by applying the estimated movement of the passenger, which is calculated by the PCM based on the vehicle speed signal from the DSC HU/CM and the steering angle signal from the EHPAS control module, to the driving determination map.
•  Based on the i-DM control status signal, the instrument cluster displays the driver's driving status as follows:

Intelligent drive master gauge (i-DM gauge)
Driving status determination
Driving status display
Green lamp
Gentle driving which does not make passenger uncomfortable
Blue lamp *1
Smooth driving in which driver and passenger feel comfortable.
White gauge (Steering operation)
Steering operation which gives passenger uncomfortable feel, and driving which sways passenger's body is determined in three levels.
White gauge (Pedal operation)
Accelerator/brake pedal operation which gives passenger uncomfortable feel, and driving which sways passenger's body is determined in three levels.

•  The following driving determination maps are recorded in the PCM.

Driving determination map
Determination target
Vehicle driving status
Driving determination map for longitudinal acceleration
Longitudinal direction
Start, acceleration start, acceleration end, deceleration start, deceleration end
Driving determination map for lateral acceleration
Lateral direction
Entering and exiting a corner
Driving determination map for maintained acceleration
Longitudinal direction
During acceleration and deceleration
Lateral direction
During cornering

Determination for driving status when there is change in longitudinal acceleration/deceleration

•  The PCM determines the driving status by applying the oscillation range and the speed of movement of the passenger's body in the longitudinal direction, which is estimated according to the vehicle's longitudinal acceleration/deceleration (start, acceleration start, acceleration end, deceleration start, deceleration end), to the driving determination map for longitudinal acceleration.
•  The instrument cluster displays the determined driving status using the green and blue lamps and the white gauge (pedal operation).

Determination for driving status when there is change in lateral acceleration/deceleration

•  The PCM determines the driving status by applying the oscillation range and the speed of movement of the passenger's body in the lateral direction, which is estimated according to the vehicle's lateral acceleration/deceleration (entering and exiting a corner), to the driving determination map for lateral acceleration.
•  The instrument cluster displays the determined driving status using the green and blue lamps and the white gauge (steering operation).

Determination for driving status when longitudinal acceleration/deceleration is maintained

•  The PCM determines the driving status by applying the oscillation and travel distance of the passenger's body in the longitudinal direction, which is estimated during the acceleration/deceleration, to the driving determination map for maintained acceleration (longitudinal direction).
•  The instrument cluster displays the determined driving status using the green and blue lamps and the white gauge (pedal operation).

Determination for driving status when lateral acceleration/deceleration is maintained

•  The PCM determines the driving status by applying the oscillation and travel distance of the passenger's body in the lateral direction, which is estimated during cornering, to the driving determination map for maintained acceleration (lateral direction).
•  The instrument cluster displays the determined driving status using the green and blue lamps and the white gauge (steering operation).

•  The PCM determines the driver's driving status using the driving determination maps separately according to the vehicle's driving conditions.

Driving diagnosis

•  Based on the i-DM diagnosis signal from the PCM, the driver's driving diagnosis for one trip* is displayed in the multi information display.
* One trip  :From engine start to engine stop by operating the key.
•  The instrument cluster displays the following driving diagnosis items:
―  Score for this trip
―  Average
―  Stage
―  Informative pointers

Score for this trip

•  Driving status determined by the control maps during the one trip is determined comprehensively, and the driving diagnosis is displayed with a numeric score between 1.0 to 5.0.
am3zzn00003339
―  If the driving period is less than 5 min. and the frequency of changes in acceleration is less than the specified times, the score is displayed as <-->.
•  A higher numeric indicates better driving status.

Average

•  The average is displayed the cumulative average value of the previous ten averages.
am3zzn00003340

Stage

•  The stage indicates the level of the driving technique.
am3zzn00003341
•  The stage has three grades from 1 to 3, and it upgrades when the average is 4.75 or more for 5 times continuously, and downgrades when the average is 1.95 or less for 15 times continuously.
•  The stage can be changed to 5-grade. Refer to the workshop manual for the switching procedure.

Informative pointers

•  The informative pointers are displayed 5 sec. after the ignition is switched off.
am3zzn00003342
•  Score for this trip and average is compared and any of the following informative pointers is selected and displayed.

Operation

Driving status

1.  Based on the vehicle speed signal from the DSC HU/CM and the steering angle signal from the EHPAS control module, the PCM detects the vehicle movement while the vehicle is being driven and estimates the passenger's postural condition.

2.  The PCM applies the information of the estimated passenger's postural condition to the control map, and determines the driving status display.

3.  The PCM sends the driving status display to the instrument cluster as an i-DM control status signal.

4.  When the instrument cluster receives the i-DM control status signal, it displays the green and blue lamps and the white gauge (pedal and steering operations).

Driving diagnosis

1.  Based on the driving status information, the PCM calculates the driving diagnosis and sends the display content to the instrument cluster as an i-DM diagnosis signal.

2.  When the instrument cluster receives the i-DM evaluation signal, it sends the i-DM evaluation signal to the multi information display.

3.  When the multi information display receives the i-DM diagnosis signal, it displays the score for the current trip, the average, the stage, and an informative pointer.
