AIR BAG SYSTEM

Outline

•  During a collision, the air bag system operates (deploys) the air bag to assist the occupant protection function for the seat belt.
Warning
•  The air bag system assists the occupant protection function for the seat belt, the intended effect of the SRS air bag system cannot be obtained if the seat belt is not fastened correctly. When driving the vehicle, always fasten the seat belt correctly.

Function

•  For the air bag system, the SAS control module calculates the degree of impact based on a collision detection signal from the following each sensor, and operates (deploys) the required parts.

System conditions display function

•  The air bag system detects each part condition and sends a system condition signal from the SAS control module to the instrument cluster.
•  The instrument cluster displays the following warning lights and sounds alarm based on the system condition signal.

Operation

Operation (deployment) during a frontal or frontal offset collision

1.  When the vehicle receives an impact from a frontal or frontal offset collision, the crash sensors built into the crash zone sensor, and the SAS control module detect the impact and convert the impact into an electrical signal at the signal processing circuit.

2.  The crash zone sensor outputs the electrical signal to the SAS control module.

3.  The SAS control module calculates the degree of impact at the determination and safing circuit based on the electrical signals from the crash zone sensor and the crash sensor.

4.  If the calculated degree of impact exceeds the previously set threshold, the SAS control module outputs an operation (deployment) signal to each air bag module/pre-tensioner seat belt at the output control circuit.

5.  Each air bag module/pre-tensioner seat belt operates (deploys) based on the operation (deployment) signal from the SAS control module.

Operation (deployment) during a lateral collision

1.  When the vehicle receives an impact from a lateral collision, the crash sensors built into the side air bag sensor, and the SAS control module detect the impact and convert the impact into an electrical signal at the signal processing circuit.

2.  The side air bag sensor outputs the electrical signal to the SAS control module.

3.  The SAS control module calculates the degree of impact at the determination and safing circuit based on the electrical signals from the side air bag sensor and the crash sensor.
