1.  Assemble in the order indicated in the table.

Cylinder Head Installation Note

1.  Measure the length of each cylinder head bolt.

•  Replace any that exceeds maximum length.

Standard : 163.4—164.0 mm {6.434—6.456 in}
Maximum : 164.7 mm {6.484 in}

2.  Apply sealant as shown in the figure.

Caution
•  Install the cylinder head before the applied sealant starts to harden.

Thickness
4—8 mm {0.2—0.3 in}

3.  Tighten the bolts using the following procedure.

(1)  Tighten the bolts in the order indicated in the figure in 5 steps.However, use the SST (49 D032 316) in Steps 3, 4 and 5.

Tightening torque
1 : 29 N·m {3.0 kgf·m, 21 ft·lbf}
2 : 29 N·m {3.0 kgf·m, 21 ft·lbf}
3 : 90°—105°
4 : 90°—105°
5 : 90°—105°
(2)  Tighten the bolt shown in the figure.

Rocker Arm Installation Note

1.  Apply engine oil to the dented surface of the pivot bolt for the adjust screw.

2.   Install the rocker arms.


Camshaft Installation Note

1.  Apply the gear oil (SAE No.90 or equivalent) to each journal of the cylinder head.

2.  Apply engine oil to the sliding surface of the exhaust camshaft drive gear and the intake camshaft driven gear.

3.  Align the gear marks of the exhaust camshaft drive gear and the intake camshaft driven gear and install the parts to the cylinder head.

4.  Apply the gear oil (SAE No.90 or equivalent) to each journal of the camshaft.


Camshaft Cap Installation Note

1.  Apply adhesive as shown in the figure.

Caution
•  Install the camshaft cap before the applied adhesive starts to harden.

2—4 mm {0.08—0.15 in}

2.  Tighten the bolts in three or more steps in the order shown in the figure.

Tightening torque
1—16 : 12—14 N·m {123—142 kgf·cm, 107—123 in·lbf}
17—22 : 19—25 N·m {2.0—2.5 kgf·m, 15—18 ft·lbf}


Exhaust Camshaft Sprocket Installation Note

1.  Hold the exhaust camshaft by using a wrench on the cast hexagon as shown.

2.  Tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket installation bolts diagonally.

29—39 N·m {3.0—3.9 kgf·m, 22—28 ft·lbf}
