ACTIVE BONNET SERVICE WARNINGS

Active Bonnet Handling

•  Always perform the procedure with at least one other person so that the bonnet does not tilt. If the bonnet is opened after the active bonnet has deployed, one side of the bonnet side may tilt and cause injury.
•  If the following parts are not replaced when servicing the vehicle after the active bonnet has deployed, the active bonnet may not function normally. If repairs are performed on a vehicle after the active bonnet has deployed, always replace with new parts no matter to what extent the external damage appears.
―  Active bonnet actuator
―  Active bonnet sensor
―  SAS control module
―  Bonnet
―  Bonnet hinge
―  Bonnet installation bolt
―  Bonnet latch
―  Bonnet lock striker
―  Front bumper (during collision)
―  Bumper retainer (during collision)
Note
•  If additional parts are damaged, replace it with a new one.

Active Bonnet Actuator Inspection

•  Inspecting the active bonnet actuator using a tester can operate the actuator which may cause serious injury. Do not use a tester to inspect the active bonnet actuator.

Active Bonnet Actuator Handling

•  Handling the active bonnet actuator before allowing the back-up power supply of the SAS control module to deplete its stored power can accidentally operate the active bonnet actuator, which may cause serious injury.
•  Before removing the active bonnet actuator or disconnecting the active bonnet actuator connector, always switch the ignition off, disconnect the negative battery cable, and then wait for 1 min or more to allow the backup power supply of the SAS control module to deplete its stored power.
•  If the piston side of an undeployed active bonnet actuator is pointed towards you and it were to unexpectedly operate, it could cause injury. Always point the piston side of an undeployed active bonnet actuator away from you.

SAS Control Module Handling

•  When connecting or disconnecting the SAS control module connector, a person charged with static electricity could accidentally operate each air bag module and the active bonnet actuator. Before connecting or disconnecting the SAS control module connector, discharge any charged static electricity from your body.
•  Handling the SAS control module before allowing its back-up power supply to deplete its stored power can accidentally operate the active bonnet actuator, which may cause serious injury.
•  Removing the SAS control module or disconnecting the SAS control module connector with the ignition ON can activate the sensor in the SAS control module and operate the active bonnet actuator, which may cause serious injury. Before removing the SAS control module or disconnecting the SAS control module connector, always switch the ignition off, disconnect the negative battery cable, and then wait 1 min or more to allow the backup power supply of the SAS control module to deplete its stored power.
•  Connecting the SAS control module connector with the SAS control module not securely fixed to the vehicle is dangerous. The sensor in the SAS control module could send an electrical signal to the active bonnet actuator. This will operate the active bonnet actuator, which may result in serious injury. Therefore, before connecting the connector, securely fix the SAS control module to the vehicle.
•  Because a sensor is built into the SAS control module, once the active bonnet actuator has operated due to a collision or other causes, the SAS control module must be replaced with a new one even if the used one does not have any visible external damage or deformation. The used SAS control module may have been damaged internally, which may cause improper operation. If the SAS control module is reused, the active bonnet actuator may not operate normally, which could result in a serious accident. Always replace the SAS control module with a new one. The SAS control module cannot be inspected as a single unit.

Active Bonnet Sensor Handling

•  Handling the active bonnet sensor before allowing the back-up power supply of the SAS control module to deplete its stored power can accidentally operate the active bonnet actuator, which may cause serious injury.
•  If the active bonnet sensor is removed or the active bonnet sensor connector is disconnected while the ignition ON, the active bonnet actuator could operate and cause serious injury. Before removing the active bonnet sensor or disconnecting the active bonnet sensor connector, always switch the ignition off, disconnect the negative battery cable, and then wait for 1 min or more to allow the backup power supply of the SAS control module to deplete its stored power.
•  If the active bonnet sensor is subjected to shock or the sensor is disassembled, the active bonnet actuator may accidentally operate and cause injury, or the system may fail to operate normally and cause a serious accident. Do not allow the active bonnet sensor to get hit and do not disassemble the sensor.
•  Because a crash sensor is integrated into the active bonnet sensor, if the active bonnet actuator has been deployed due to a collision, the active bonnet sensor may have an internal malfunction even if there is no visible damage or deformation on the exterior. If the active bonnet sensor is reused, the active bonnet actuator may not operate normally, which could result in a serious accident. Always replace the active bonnet sensor with a new one. The active bonnet sensor cannot be inspected as a single unit.
