ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE [SKYACTIV-G 2.5T]
id0111q8002700
Purpose, Function
• The engine oil solenoid valve switches the hydraulic transmission passage to the oil pump or oil pan to suppress unnecessary increases in the oil pump discharge pressure. The oil pump drive resistance is reduced by switching the hydraulic transmission passage based on the duty drive in accordance with the engine operation conditions.
Construction
• The engine oil solenoid valve is located in the spacer on the right side surface of the cylinder block.
• The engine oil solenoid valve has the following parts:
• An auxiliary passage which leads to the oil pan has been equipped to eliminate valve movement resistance due to hydraulic pressure.
Operation
• The hydraulic transmission passage leading to the oil pump is switched based on the duty signal from the PCM to control the hydraulic pressure applied to the oil pump.
• The spool valve stays in the upper side by the spring force of the return spring when the engine oil solenoid valve is not energized. When the coil is energized by a signal from the PCM, electromagnetic power, which moves the plunger to the lower side, is applied and the spool valve moves to the lower side.
• The PCM performs duty-control of a signal to the coil so that the spool valve is in the optimum position according to the engine operation conditions.
During duty drive (during variable oil pump discharge)
-
• The engine oil solenoid valve is driven based on the duty signal from the PCM and opens/closes the hydraulic transmission passage from the oil gallery.
• When the spool valve moves to the lower side, the oil passage to the oil pan closes and the oil passage to the oil pump from the oil gallery opens. As a result, hydraulic pressure is applied to the oil pump slide.
• Because the oil amount flowing to the oil pump increases as the duty ratio from the PCM heightens and the oil passage to the oil pump from the oil gallery widens, the hydraulic pressure applied to the oil pump increases.
When engine oil solenoid valve is not energized (when oil not supplied to oil pump)
-
• When the energization to the coil is interrupted due to the signal from the PCM, the valve moves to the position shown in the figure by the spring force.
• Because the oil passage leads to the oil pan from the oil pump opens, the oil pump hydraulic pressure releases into the oil pan. At this time, the oil passage to the oil pump slide closes.
