Purpose, Function
• The three way solenoid valve switches the flow of air to operate the exhaust manifold variable valve actuator.
Construction
• The three way solenoid valve is located on the cylinder head cover.
• The three way solenoid valve consists of a coil, spring, plunger, and filter.
• The three way solenoid valve is equipped with a filter to prevent foreign matter penetration from the atmosphere.
Operation
• The plunger is operated by the energization of the three way solenoid valve coil according to the control signal from the PCM.
• The plunger is operated by the spring force when the coil is energized and the passage between the exhaust manifold variable valve actuator and the vacuum pump is connected.
• The three way solenoid valve passes air from the atmosphere through the filter to the exhaust manifold variable valve actuator when the coil is not energized.
