Outline
• Depending on the engine operation conditions, the PCM controls the engine coolant control valve opening angle so that the appropriate amount of engine coolant can be sent to the appropriate coolant passage at the appropriate timing.
Block diagram
Operation
• The PCM controls the engine coolant control valve opening angle as follows.*1
*1 :Ambient temperature is 18 °C {64 °F} or more
Operation condition
Engine coolant passage of cylinder block, cylinder head
• Constant circulation. Flow amount fluctuates according to the heater core, EGR cooler, and radiator passage.
Engine coolant passage of heater core, EGR cooler
• Engine coolant temperature is 80 °C {176 °F}: Fully open
Engine coolant passage from radiator
• Engine coolant temperature is 110 °C {230 °F}: Fully open
• Targets an engine coolant temperature of 84 °C {183 °F}, and performs feedback control according to the engine load
Engine coolant passage from oil cooler, ATF
• Engine coolant temperature is 65 °C {149 °F}: Fully open
• Adjusts the engine coolant control valve to the appropriate opening angle to stabilize the engine coolant temperature after engine warm-up.
