STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION [FW6A-EL]

1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
2. Open the driver's door.
3. Switch the ignition off.
4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
5. Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) 6. Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.

7. Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8. Using a precision flathead screwdriver, release the tab.

9. Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A—B and terminals D—E.
