Purpose

• The active bonnet actuators raise the bonnet immediately if the vehicle is involved in a frontal collision and a certain level of impact is applied.

Function

• The active bonnet actuator operates based on an operation signal from the SAS control module and the piston pops out.

Construction

• The active bonnet actuators are located near the bonnet hinges inside the engine compartment.

• The active bonnet actuator consists of a cylinder, piston, and gas generator.

Operation

1. When the active bonnet actuator receives an operation signal from the SAS control module, the gas generator ignites (1) and produces gas.

2. The pressure (2) from the produced gas presses up (3) the piston inside the cylinder.

3. When the piston is raised completely (4), the stopper (5) prevents the piston from moving back down.
