• Consists of a disc with a gap and slits that rotate together with the steering, inserted into the sensor unit with 3 pairs of photo transistors and LEDs arranged facing each other.
• When the discs rotate together with the steering, the light from LED which hits the photo transistor changes. The photo transistor outputs a signal as ON when light hits, and OFF when light is blocked. The DSC unit calculates the steering angle and operation speed based on the difference in phase of output from sensor 1 and sensor 2. The DSC unit also detects the neutral position of the steering based on the disc gap and sensor N.
