Note

•  The DPF cannot be directly seen structurally.

•  The DPF is built into the catalytic converter. If a malfunction occurs in the DPF, replace the catalytic converter.

STEP	INSPECTION	RESULTS	ACTION
1	VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC •  Switch the ignition off, then ON (engine off). •  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure. (See DTC TABLE [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) •  Is the DTC P2458:00, P2463:00 or P242F:00 also present?	Yes	Go to the next step.
		No	Go to Step 4.
2	VISUALLY INSPECT SOOT ACCUMULATION IN TAIL PIPE •  Visually inspect the soot accumulation in the tail pipe. •  Is the soot accumulation in the tail pipe the same (tail pipe is completely covered in soot) or more than the condition shown in the following picture? ac5jjw00011577	Yes	Go to Step 5.
		No	Go to the next step.
3	DETERMINE IF REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY OR NOT FROM DPF SOOT ACCUMULATION CONDITION •  Is P242F:00 included in the DTC verified in Step 1?	Yes	Replace the catalytic converter. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)
		No	Perform compulsory DPF regeneration and go to Step 6. (See COMPULSORY DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)
4	VISUALLY INSPECT SOOT ACCUMULATION IN TAIL PIPE •  Visually inspect the soot accumulation in the tail pipe. •  Is the soot accumulation in the tail pipe the same (tail pipe is completely covered in soot) or more than the condition shown in the following picture? ac5jjw00011577	Yes	Perform compulsory DPF regeneration. (See COMPULSORY DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) Clean the tail pipe, and go to step 6 after removing the accumulated soot.
		No	Go to the next step.
5	DETERMINE IF DPF REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY OR NOT FROM SOOT ACCUMULATION CONDITION IN CATALYTIC CONVERTER OUTLET •  Remove the middle pipe. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) •  Inspect the soot accumulation in the catalytic converter outlet. •  Is the soot accumulation in the catalytic converter outlet the same (inside of outlet pipe is completely covered in soot) or more than the condition shown in the following picture? ac5jjw00011578 Note •  Adhesion of oil due to burn as shown in the following picture is not considered as soot accumulation. ac5jjw00011579	Yes	Replace the catalytic converter. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)
		No	Perform compulsory DPF regeneration. (See COMPULSORY DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) Clean the tail pipe, and go to the next step after removing the accumulated soot.
6	PERFORM DIESEL SMOKE INSPECTION AND DETERMINE IF DPF REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY OR NOT •  Perform the diesel smoke inspection. •  Is inspection result within the legal specification?	Yes	The DPF is normal.
		No	Replace the catalytic converter. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)
