VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (V/C-MODULE) [MAZDA RADAR CRUISE CONTROL (MRCC) SYSTEM]

id0120g0000400

Purpose

•  The vehicle control module (V/C-module) controls the travel speed of the detecting vehicle and the brakes in conjunction with the distance between the detecting vehicle and the vehicle ahead.
•  If the distance between the detecting vehicle and the vehicle ahead is too close, the vehicle control module (V/C-module) performs control to notify the driver using the display in the instrument cluster.

Function

•  The vehicle control module (V/C-module) performs the following controls based on the signals from the radar sensor and each control module.
―  Smart brake support (SBS) system (See SMART BRAKE SUPPORT (SBS).)
―  Distance recognition support system (DRSS) (See DISTANCE RECOGNITION SUPPORT SYSTEM (DRSS).)
•  The vehicle control module (V/C-module) has adopted an on-board diagnostic function which can verify malfunctioning areas of the system.

On-board diagnostic function

•  The on-board diagnostic function consists of the following functions: A malfunction detection function, which detects overall malfunctions in the vehicle control module (V/C-module) related parts; a memory function, which stores detected DTCs; a display function, which indicates system malfunctions via DTC display; and a PID/data monitoring function, which reads out specific input/output signals.
•  Using the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS), DTCs can be read out and deleted, and PID/data monitoring can be performed.

Malfunction detection function

•  Detects overall malfunctions in the vehicle control module (V/C-module)-related parts.

Display function

•  If a system malfunction is detected, the display function notifies the driver of the system malfunction by performing the following controls.
―  Controls MRCC warning light (amber) to flash
―  Displays “MRCC Inspection Required” on LCD in instrument cluster
―  Activates buzzer in instrument cluster
•  If the radar performance is lowered due to soiling, a message is displayed in the LCD in the instrument cluster.

Memory function

•  The memory function stores malfunctions detected in the vehicle control module (V/C-module)-related parts using the malfunction detection function, and the stored malfunction contents are not cleared even if the ignition is switched off or the negative battery cable is disconnected.

*1  :C: CMDTC self test, D: ODDTC self test
*2  :The MRCC warning light (amber) flashes only when the MRCC ON switch is ON.
*3  :The master warning light is illuminated only when the SBS/DRSS is ON.
*4  :If both the front and rear wheels are rotated using a 4-wheel chassis dynamometer, the vehicle control module (V/C-module) determines that there is an error in the location information of the object which is detected by the radar sensor. As a result, the vehicle control module (V/C-module) illuminates the master warning light, displays "MRCC Inspection Required", "SBS Inspection Required", or "DRSS Inspection Required" on the LCD, and stores DTC C1A67:54. The master warning light and "MRCC Inspection Required", "SBS Inspection Required", or "DRSS Inspection Required" indication can be turned off by switching the ignition off (LOCK) after removing the vehicle from the 4-wheel chassis dynamometer. The stored DTC C1A67:54 can be cleared using the M-MDS.
*5  :If either the front or rear wheels are rotated using a 2-wheel chassis dynamometer, the DSC HU/CM determines that the DSC is malfunctioning. As a result, it determines that the vehicle control module (V/C-module) is also malfunctioning, then flashes the MRCC warning light (amber), illuminates the master warning light, and stores DTC U0316:09. After the vehicle is removed from the 2-wheel dynamometer, the ignition switched off (LOCK), and then switched back ON (engine ON), the MRCC warning light (amber) and the master warning light turn off when the vehicle is driven at 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more. Clear DTC U0316:09 from the memory using the M-MDS.

DTC 7-digit code definition

•  When related systems or components have failed, the CM stores the DTC of the malfunctioning part in the CM memory, and allows for the retrieval of the store data using scanning tool when necessary. The DTCs are indicated using seven digits. Each digit indicates the following.
am6zzn00002773

Status byte for DTC

•  The status byte is the two digits (after hyphen) after the 7-digit DTC.
am6zzn00002774
•  The status byte is a code which indicates the pending code, current/past malfunction status, or warning illumination status.
•  The status byte can be read by performing a CMDTC self-test using the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS).
•  For details on the status byte, refer to the explanation on the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS) when reading the DTC.

Snapshot data

Note
•  The vehicle control module (V/C-module) stores the following two types of information when a DTC is detected and displays snapshot data in the M-MDS.
―  Vehicle information detected by vehicle control module (V/C-module)
―  Vehicle information detected by instrument cluster and received by vehicle control module (V/C-module) via CAN signal
•  The data for all DTCs currently detected is stored.

miles
Accumulated total traveled distance from completion of vehicle until vehicle control module (V/C-module) detects DTC (Odometer value in instrument cluster)
The total traveled distance from which the vehicle control module (V/C-module) detects DTCs to the present can be calculated by performing the following procedure.
1.  Verify the odometer value in the instrument cluster.
2.  Verify the snapshot data item TOTAL_DIST.
3.  Subtract 2 from 1.
