•  The VAD shutter valve is composed of a valve, actuator, and rod.

•  The actuator is composed of a diaphragm, diaphragm chamber, and spring.

•  Normally, the rod is pushed by the force of the spring, opening the shutter valve. When intake manifold vacuum is applied to the diaphragm chamber, the rod is pulled, closing the valve.
