•  The high occurrence of NO_X at high temperatures has been reduced by recirculating exhaust gas to the combustion chamber in order to lower the combustion temperature.

•  The exhaust gas flows along the EGR cooler and into the EGR valve. Exhaust gas that has flowed past the EGR valve flows through the EGR pipe, and is conducted to the intake manifold.
