CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)]

•  The CKP sensor is installed to the clutch housing.
•  The pulse wheel which is installed to the dual-mass flywheel has 56 projections and spaces with 6° of crank angle between each projection.
•  Consists of an IC in which a magneto resistance element (MRE) and signal processing circuit have been integrated, and a magnet. Sensor output signal reliability has been improved with the adoption of the MRE resulting in the detection signal amplitude being wider compared to the Hall element.
•  Signal detection uses the special characteristics of MRE to change the electrical resistance corresponding to the magnetic field and magnetic flux changes.
•  The change in magnetic flux detected by the MRE (MRE output) are changed into short waves or rectangular waves at the signal processing circuit, and then input to the PCM as a sensor output signal.
•  If the CKP sensor is removed/installed or replaced, magnetized objects such as metal shavings adhering to the sensor could cause fluctuation in the magnetic flux of the MRE, causing abnormal sensor output which could adversely affect engine control.
