Shift-lock Release Condition

The shift-lock is released when all the following conditions are satisfied (except when the shift-lock release lever is operated).
•  The selector lever is in the P position.
•  The ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position.
•  The brake pedal is depressed (Brake switch is on).

Shift-lock Condition (When shift-lock release conditions are not satisfied)

•  If the selector lever is shift from the P position when the shift-lock release conditions are not satisfied, the shift-lock solenoid is pressed down by the selector lever. However, because the shift-lock solenoid is not energized, the lock slider is held by the spring force. The lock slider therefore mechanically restricts the movement of the selector lever, preventing shifting out of the P position.

Shift-lock Release Condition (When shift-lock release conditions are satisfied)

•  If the selector lever is shift from the P position when the shift-lock release conditions are satisfied, the shift-lock solenoid is pressed down by the selector lever. Because the shift-lock solenoid is energized, the lock slider overcomes the spring force and moves down with the shift-lock solenoid. The lock slider therefore moves so that it does not restrict the movement of the selector lever, allowing shifting out of the P position.

When Shift-lock Release lever Operated

•  The shift-lock can be released by operating the shift-lock release lever even when the shift-lock release conditions are not satisfied. By inserting a flathead screwdriver into the shift-lock release hole, the release lever is pressed down, and both the shift-lock solenoid and the lock slider are pressed down. Due to this, the shift-lock can be released forcibly.
