•  The steering gear and linkage consists of the steering rack, pinion shaft, EPS motor, ball screw and torque sensor.
•  The steering rack, equipped with the ball screw, is inserted through the center of the EPS motor. The rotation of the EPS motor (assist force) is transmitted via the ball screw directly to the steering rack.

Ball screw
•  The steering rack has a screw (threaded grooves) and encloses balls that move in the grooves between the steering rack and nut. A deflector is equipped to the nut to circulate the balls.
•  When the EPS motor operates, the nut rotates together with the rotor. The rotation of the nut causes the balls to roll and move along the threaded groove between the nut and steering rack. At this point, a ball which leaves a nut groove is deflected to the next groove by the deflector and continuous to circulate in the grooves between the steering rack and nut. As a result, the rotational force is converted via the balls to an axial direction movement of the steering rack, and a highly effective means of transmission is achieved.
