ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) MOTOR CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION
id061300248000
Construction
• The EPS motor is a permanent magnet brushless motor. It has a rotor structure which consists of a magnet and a resolver rotor, and a stator structure with a core and coil inside the stator housing.
• The rotor moves together with the balls and nut of the ball screw. When the rotor rotates so do the balls and nut.
Operation
• When the current from the EPS control module is applied to the stator, the balls and nut rotate together with the rotor.
• The resolver sensor detects the rotor position and transmits the EPS motor rotation angle (rotor position) signal to the EPS control module.
• The EPS control module switches the current sent to the stator based on the EPS motor rotation angle (rotor position) signal from the resolver sensor.
