Operation

Before Activation (Normal Condition)

•  The seat belt is installed to the spool.
•  The strip is wrapped around the clutch sleeve.
•  The spool and clutch sleeve are not connected because the clutch pawls are normally retracted.

During Activation

1.  The gas generator produces gas when it receives an operation signal from the SAS control module. The gas pressure pushes the strip outward.

2.  When the strip is pushed outward, the clutch sleeve is rotated.

3.  When the clutch sleeve starts to rotate, the clutch pawls are raised by centrifugal force and acceleration, and then engaged with the spool.

4.  The rotation of the clutch sleeve is transmitted to the spool by engaging the clutch pawls with the spool, causing the spool to rotate in the direction in which the seat belt is retracted.

After Activation

1.  When the force to pull out the seat belt exceeds the force to retract the seat belt after pre-tensioner activation, the spool and the clutch area start to rotate in the direction in which the seat belt is pulled out.

2.  The outer surface of the guiding ring stops rotating when it engages with the locking ring groove.

3.  While continuing to rotate in the direction in which the seat belt is pulled out, the clutch pawls are pushed back by the release block of the guiding ring, then disengaged from the spool.
