• The liftgate latch and lock motor releases the latch lever.

• If the liftgate cannot be opened for reasons such as a dead battery or a malfunction in the electrical system, the liftgate can be opened using the liftgate release lever which can release the liftgate latch manually.

• When the liftgate latch auto closure control module detects that the half-latch switch of the liftgate latch position switch is off (over-stroke), the liftgate latch closure motor stops and TR2 and TR3 turns on and TR1 turns off after approx. 0.1 s (1). As a result, relay B and C are switched (2) and the motor switches from normal to unlock operation.

• The unlock signal is sent from the BCM to the liftgate lock motor, and the liftgate lock motor frees (unlocked condition) the liftgate. At the same time, the liftgate lifts away via the spring force of the liftgate weatherstrip and stopper rubber to release the latch.

Note

• After the latch is released, the liftgate latch is freed (unlock operation) after approx. 1.5 s.
