System Operation

•  When the parking sensor activates, it performs initialization to check its operation, and then changes to obstruction alert status.
•  When the system is initialized, the front buzzer sounds for approx. 0.8 s. When the shift lever is in any position except the R position with the parking brake released, the system changes to obstruction alert status. When the shift lever is in the R position with the parking brake released, the parking sensor buzzer (rear) activates for approx. 0.8 s and switches to obstruction notification status. The driver can verify that the system is operating correctly by the front/rear buzzer sound.
•  During obstruction alert status, a warning buzzer will activate if an obstruction is detected while the parking brake switch is turned off. (Parking brake is released.) The operating ultrasonic sensor differs depending on the vehicle speed. Also, refer to the table below for details concerning the operating ultrasonic sensor.

•  To prevent detection error due to the washer nozzle operation while the headlight washers are operating, the detection condition just before the headlight washer switch is turned on is maintained for approx. 2 s after the headlight washer switch is turned on.

Warning Alarm Sound Pattern

Ultrasonic sensor error is detected

•  If the parking sensor control module detects an open circuit in the ultrasonic sensor circuit or a frozen ultrasonic sensor, it activates the transistor for the buzzer ON/OFF control to operate the buzzer as shown in the following figure:
•  If there is a ultrasonic sensor error, the buzzer sound cycle (approx. 0.8 s) is repeated five times. The parking sensor control module flashes the parking sensor switch indicator light while it detects an error.

Customize function

•  The parking sensor has a customize function.
•  By setting the customize function, the ultrasonic sensor operation areas can be changed if a trailer/tow-bar switch (dealer's option) is installed.
•  The customize function can be set using the M-MDS.
•  The ultrasonic sensor operation condition is as follows when the customize function is set:
