2

Auto leveling does not adjust optical axis of the headlights for vehicle posture

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Headlight leveling actuator malfunction
• auto leveling control unit malfunction
• Auto leveling sensor malfunction
• Improper installation of auto leveling sensor
• Open or short to ground circuit in wiring harness between auto leveling control unit terminal W and DSC HU/CM terminal AA

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1

VERIFY AUTO LEVELING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATEION

• Turn the ignition switch to ON position.
• Verify that the auto leveling warning light condition.
• Does the auto leveling warning light illuminate from turning the ignition switch to ON 3 seconds after?
Yes
Perform the symptom "No.1 Auto leveling warning light illuminates when the ignition switch turned to ON position" troubleshooting procedure.
No
Go to the next step.
2

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN AUTO LEVELING SENSOR OR ELSEWHERE

• Is the malfunction appears both side?
Yes
Go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.
3

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL UNIT AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR

• Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness at auto leveling function does not operate.
RH:
- Auto leveling control unit terminal B-headlight leveling actuator (RH) terminal F
- Auto leveling control unit terminal T-headlight leveling actuator (RH) terminal H
- Auto leveling control unit terminal E-headlight leveling actuator (RH) terminal G
LH:
- Auto leveling control unit terminal B- headlight leveling actuator (LH) terminal F
- Auto leveling control unit terminal T- headlight leveling actuator (LH) terminal H
- Auto leveling control unit terminal G- headlight leveling actuator (LH) terminal G
• Is open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
No
Go to the next step.
4

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR OR ELSEWHERE

• Replace the suspected front combination light.
• Does the auto leveling adjust optical axis of the headlights for vehicle posture?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed. (Malfunction is in headlight leveling actuator.)
No
Replace the auto leveling control unit.
5

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO LEVELING CONTROL UNIT AND HEADLIGHT LEVELING ACTUATOR

• Inspect for open or short circuit in wiring harness following:
RH:
- Auto leveling control unit terminal B-headlight leveling actuator (RH) terminal F
- Auto leveling control unit terminal T-headlight leveling actuator (RH) terminal H
LH:
- Auto leveling control unit terminal B-headlight leveling actuator (LH) terminal F
- Auto leveling control unit terminal T-headlight leveling actuator (LH) terminal H
• Is open or short circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
No
Go to the next step.
6

INSPECT FRONT AND REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR INSTALLATION

• Inspect front and rear auto leveling sensor installation (bend or damaged of bracket, or dislocated link).
• Are front and rear auto leveling sensor installed properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace malfunctioning part, or install properly.
7

IINSPECT FRONT AUTO LEVELING SENSOR

• Inspect the front auto leveling sensor.
• Is the front auto leveling sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the front auto leveling sensor.
8

INSPECT REAR AUTO LEVELING SENSOR

• Inspect the rear auto leveling sensor.
• Is the rear auto leveling sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the rear auto leveling sensor.
9

INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL LINE OR ELSEWHERE

• Turn the ignition to OFF.
• Disconnect the instrument cluster and auto leveling control unit connectors.
• Verify that the continuity for following:
- Auto leveling control unit terminal W-ground (normal condition: not continuity)
- Auto leveling control unit terminal W-DSC HU/CM terminal AA (normal condition: continuity)
• Are there continuity normal?
Yes
Replace the auto leveling control unit.
No
Repair or replace for open or short circuit.
