SMALL SUN GEAR AND ONE-WAY CLUTCH 1 ASSEMBLY

Assembly Procedure

1. Install the small sun gear into the sun gear drum.

2. Install a new snap ring.

3. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust bearing and secure it to the one-way clutch inner race.

4. Verify that the spring cage of the one-way clutch faces toward the outer race as shown.

5. Install the one-way clutch 1 into the one-way clutch outer race.

6. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust bearing and secure it to the one-way clutch 1.

7. Apply ATF to the one-way clutch 1 and one-way clutch outer race.

8. Install the one-way clutch inner race into the one-way clutch outer race by turning the inner race counterclockwise.

9. Hold the one-way clutch outer race. Verify that the inner race rotates smoothly in the counterclockwise direction only.

• If the one-way clutch inner race turns only clockwise, the spring cage might have been installed backwards.

• If the one-way clutch inner race turns or locks in both directions, replace one-way clutch 1.

10. Install the one-way clutch inner race and outer race into the sun gear drum.

11. Install a new snap ring.

12. Verify that when the small sun gear is held, the one-way clutch outer race turns smoothly and only clockwise.

13. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust bearing and secure it to the sun gear drum.
