Removal

1.  Remove the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the dynamic damper.

3.  Disconnect the connector.

4.  Remove the bolts and the rear differential cover.

Note
•  Drain the differential fluid into a suitable drain pan.

5.  Drain the differential fluid from the housing.

6.  Remove the five bolts and the rotary blade coupling component.

Installation

1.  Clean the gasket mating surfaces of the rear axle housing, the differential housing cover, and the rotary blade coupling.

Caution
•  Make sure the machined surfaces on the rear axle housing, the differential housing cover, and the rotary blade coupling are clean and free of oil before applying the new silicone sealant. The inside of the rear axle must be covered when cleaning the machined surface to prevent contamination.

2.  Apply a new continuous bead of clear silicone rubber.

Note
•  Verify that the grommet is seated all the way in the slot.
•  The rotary blade coupling must be installed within 15 min of application of the sealant, or new sealant must be applied. If possible, allow 1 hour before filling with lubricant to make sure the sealant has properly cured.

3.  Install the five bolts and the rotary blade coupling.

4.  Apply a new continuous bead of clear silicone rubber to the differential housing cover.

•  The differential housing cover must be installed within 15 min of application of the sealant, or new sealant must be applied. If possible, allow 1 hour before filling with lubricant to make sure the sealant has properly cured.

5.  Install the differential housing cover and the bolts.

6.  Connect the connector.

7.  Fill the rear differential with 1.4 L {1.48 US qt, 1.23 Imp qt} of rear differential oil.

8.  Tighten the filler plug.
