Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	ATF • Are there any problems with the following? ― Level ― Condition (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)	Yes	Service if necessary
1		No	Go to the next step
2	Improper pressure • Is the line pressure lower than normal? (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)	Yes	Inspect the following components: control valve body, oil pump, oil filter and seal component, recirculating seal, clutch components
2		No	Go to the next step
3	Internal or external shift linkages • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Damage ― Misadjustment ― Misassembly	Yes	Service if necessary
3		No	The problem is resolved
4	Control valve body • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Bolts are not tightened to the specification ― Gaskets are damaged ― Manual valve, main regulator valve, or low/reverse modulator regulator valve is stuck, damaged, or misassembled ― Separator plates are damaged ― Pressure tap plate/gasket leaks, damaged, or misassembled	Yes	Service if necessary
4		No	Go to the next step
5	Oil filter and seal component • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Filter/seal is damaged, or plugged ― Recirculating Seal is damaged or out of position	Yes	Service if necessary
5		No	Go to the next step
6	Oil pump • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Bolts are not tightened to the specification ― Gaskets are damaged ― Porosity/cross leaks and/or the ball plug is missing, leaking, or passage blockage ― Oil pump support seal rings, #3 and #4 (Forward), or #6 and #7 (Reverse), are damaged ― Oil pump gear/pocket is damaged ― Separator plate is damaged	Yes	Service if necessary
6		No	Go to the next step
7	Forward clutch component (Forward only) • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Seals or piston are damaged ― The ball is damaged, missing, or improperly seated ― Friction elements are damaged, worn, or there is excessive end clearance	Yes	Service if necessary
7		No	Go to the next step
8	Reverse clutch component (Reverse only) • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Seals or piston are damaged ― The check ball is damaged ― Friction elements are damaged, worn ― Return spring is worn or damaged ― Piston bore is damaged ― Excessive clutch pack end clearance	Yes	Service if necessary
8		No	Go to the next step
9	Low/reverse clutch component (Reverse only) • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Piston or seals are damaged ― Friction elements are damaged or worn ― Return spring is damaged ― Piston bore is damaged ― Excessive clutch pack end clearance	Yes	Service if necessary
9		No	Go to the next step
10	Forward/coasting/direct (F/C/D) clutch cylinder component • Do any of the following malfunctions exist? ― Reverse Seal Ring is damaged or missing ― Cylinder is damaged or leaking	Yes	Service if necessary
10		No	The problem is resolved
11	• Verify the test results. ― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
