ROAD TEST[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)]

id051708802200

Note
•  Drive the vehicle in a safe manner according to traffic conditions and observe all traffic laws.

Road Test Preparation

1.  Inspect the engine coolant level. (See COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].) (See ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL INSPECTION[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

2.  Inspect the engine oil level. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

3.  Inspect the ATF level. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)

4.  Inspect the ignition timing. (See ENGINE TUNE-UP[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

5.  Inspect the idle speed. (See ENGINE TUNE-UP[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

Shift Point Road Test

Note
•  This test verifies that the shift control system is operating correctly.

1.  Bring up the engine and transaxle to normal operating temperature.

2.  Shift the selector lever to the D range.

3.  Apply minimum throttle and observe speeds at which up-shift occurs and the torque converter engages.

Caution
•  Do not exceed posted speed limits when performing this test.

4.  Coasting 2-1 down-shift procedure: accelerate the vehicle from a stop to 19—24 km/h {12—15 mph}.

5.  Release the accelerator, and coast down or lightly brake the vehicle.

•  The coast down-shift may be nearly imperceptible to the driver.

6.  Move the vehicle into D (4GR).

7.  Depress the O/D OFF switch.

•  The transaxle should down-shift to 3GR.

8.  Release the accelerator pedal.

•  The engine braking should occur. The TCC should disengage and then reapply.

9.  Depress the accelerator pedal to floor.

•  The transaxle should shift from 3rd to 2nd, or 3rd to 1st, depending on vehicle speed.

10.  With the vehicle in the D range while travelling at 80 km/h {50 mph} or more at less than half throttle, shift the selector lever from D range to the manual 2 range and release the accelerator pedal.

•  The transaxle should immediately down-shift into 2nd.

11.  With the vehicle remaining in the manual 2 range, shift the selector lever into manual 1 range and release the accelerator pedal.

•  The transaxle should down-shift into 1st while travelling at 48—56 km/h {28—32 mph} or less.

12.  If the transaxle fails to up-shift/down-shift or the torque converter does not apply and release, inspect according to “SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING”. (See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ITEM TABLE[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)
