POWER STEERING OIL PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION[AJ (3.0L Duratec)]

Removal

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.  Remove the power steering pressure hose bracket.

3.  Assemble two SSTs using the bolt (M6) and nut, then install them in the position shown in the figure for the cylinder head (RH).

Caution

•  Refer to the SST instruction manual for the basic handing procedure.

4.  Install the SST using the following procedure.

(1)  Install the right rear shaft of the SST to the bolt of the right shock absorber as shown in the figure.

(2)  Install the left rear shaft of the SST to the bolt of the left shock absorber. (Identical position to the right side)

(3)  Install the left/right front shaft of the SST with front foot No.2 to the bolt as shown in the figure.

(4)  Adjust the positions of the SST side bars so that they are the same height (left and right) and horizontal.

(5)  Make sure each joint is securely tightened.

Caution

•  If the SSTs installed to the cylinder head (RH) interfere with the brake pipe, the brake pipe could be damaged. Do not allow the SSTs to interfere with the brake pipe.

Note

•  The SST (49E 017 5A0) can be used in place of the SST (49C 017 5A0).

5.  Support the engine using the SST.

6.  Remove the front wheels and tires.

7.  Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolt.

8.  Remove the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

9.  Remove the bolt and the power steering pump pulley.

10.  Disconnect the power steering lower pressure hose.

11.  Disconnect the power steering lower pressure hose.

12.  Disconnect the power steering pressure hose and position it out of the way.

(1)  Remove the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.

(2)  Disconnect the connector.

(3)  Disconnect the power steering pressure line and position it out of the way.

13.  Remove the nut and position the ground cable out of the way.

14.  Remove the upper engine insulator bracket.

(1)  Remove the nuts.

(2)  Remove the bolts.

(3)  Remove the upper engine insulator bracket.

15.  Remove the engine insulator.

(1)  Remove the nut.

(2)  Remove the bolts and the engine insulator.

16.  Remove the power steering pump bracket.

(1)  Remove the pressure line bracket screw.

(2)  Remove the six nuts.

(3)  Remove five bolts and the power steering pump bracket.

17.  Remove the power steering pump.

Installation

1.  Position the power steering pump.

2.  Install the power steering pump bracket.

(1)  Install the five bolts.

(2)  Install the six nuts.

(3)  Install the pressure line bracket screw.

3.  Install the engine insulator.

(1)  Install the bolts.

(2)  Install the nut.

4.  Install the upper engine insulator bracket.

(1)  Install the bolts.

(2)  Install the nuts.

5.  Install the ground cable and nut.

6.  Connect the power steering pressure hose.

(1)  Connect the power steering pressure hose to the pump.

(2)  Connect the connector.

(3)  Install the power steering pressure line bracket bolt.

7.  Connect the power steering low pressure hose.

8.  Install the power steering pump pulley and bolt.

9.  Install the drive belt. (See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION[AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

10.  Tighten the power steering pump pulley bolt.

11.  Remove the SSTs.

12.  Fill the fluid, perform air bleeding, and inspect the system for leakage.
