Air mix actuator (potentiometer)

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Air mix actuator malfunction
•  Climate control unit malfunction
•  Open circuit between air mix actuator and climate control unit
•  Short circuit between air mix actuator (terminal B) and climate control unit (terminal X)

Diagnostic Procedure

INSPECTION

ACTION

•  Disconnect air mix actuator connector.
•  Disconnect airflow mode actuator connector.
•  Is resistance between terminals C and E of air mix actuator as indicated below?
―  3.2 kilohms—4.8 kilohms
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

•  Is resistance between terminals B and E of air mix actuator as indicated below?
―  0.4 kilohms—4.2 kilohms
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

•  Connect air mix actuator connector.
•  Disconnect climate control unit connector.
•  Is resistance between terminals U and V of climate control unit as indicated below?
―  3.2 kilohms—4.8 kilohms
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair wiring harness.

•  Is resistance between terminals V and X of climate control unit as indicated below?
―  0.4 kilohms—4.2 kilohms
Yes
Replace climate control unit. (See CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No
Repair wiring harness. (Open circuit)
