DTC B2441

id080200807200

System Malfunction Location

•  Driver-side side air bag sensor installation malfunction

Detection Condition

Warning
•  Detection conditions are for understanding the DTC outline before performing an inspection. Performing an inspection according to only the detection conditions may cause injury due to an operating error, or damage the system. When performing an inspection, always follow the inspection procedure.
•  The driver-side side air bag sensor monitors the scale of an impact. If the crash event is severe enough for the driver-side side air bag module to operate (deploy), the sensor will signal the SAS control module to operate (deploy) the driver-side side air bag. The SAS control module monitors signals which are not within the specification to the driver-side side air bag sensor. If the SAS control module receives a signal from the driver-side side air bag sensor which indicates improper installation of the sensor, it will store DTC B2441 in memory and output a pattern 42 flash to the air bag system warning light.

Possible Cause

•  Driver-side side air bag sensor damage
•  Corrosion or damage of the driver-side side air bag sensor mounting surface

Diagnostic Procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Connect the M-MDS.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Using the M-MDS, verify the DTCs and record the past malfunction DTCs.
Is the present malfunction DTC B2441 displayed?
Yes
Note
•  Indicates a hard malfunction. The malfunction is still present. This malfunction cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer displayed.
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent malfunction. The malfunction is not present at this time. Go to Step 5.
2
Warning
•  Handling the components improperly can accidentally deploy the air bags and pre-tensioner front buckle, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the SRS air bag system components.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Refer to the air bag system deactivation procedure and deactivate the system.
Remove the driver-side side air bag sensor. (See DRIVER-SIDE SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
Visually inspect the driver-side side air bag sensor installation surface for damage, corrosion, and foreign material.
Properly install the driver-side side air bag sensor installation bolts, and verify the bolts are tightened to the specified tightening torque.
Is there any damage, corrosion, or foreign material on the driver-side side air bag sensor installation surface? Is there any malfunction in the installation bolts, or improper tightening torque?
Yes
Repair or reinstall the malfunctioning part, and go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.
3
Verify that the driver-side side air bag sensor connector is connected properly.
Is the driver-side side air bag sensor connector connected properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Connect the connector properly, and go to Step 6.
4
Measure the resistance between installation surface of the driver-side side air bag sensor and a normal body ground.
Note
•  Measure the resistance while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and driver-side side air bag sensor.
Is the resistance more than 100 ohms?
Yes
Repair the body ground. After repair, go to Step 6.
No
Replace the driver-side side air bag sensor.
After replacement, go to Step 6.
5
Refer to the past malfunction DTCs recorded during Step 1.
Are the past malfunction DTCs displayed during Step 1 intermittent malfunctions which are not displayed as present malfunction DTCs?
Yes
Inspect for an intermittent installation malfunction. Attempt to replicate the malfunction by flexing the wiring harness and cycling the ignition key between the ON and LOCK position repeatedly. Repair or replace if there is any intermittent malfunction.
After repair or replacement, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
Refer to the past malfunction DTCs recorded during Step 1.
Was any past malfunction DTC displayed during Step 1?
Yes
If any DTC is displayed, refer to the DTC table, and repair the malfunctioning part according to the DTC inspection.
No
Refer to the reactivation procedure in the air bag system deactivation procedure, reactivate the system. Clear all DTCs.
