DTC U2018

id080200808400

System Malfunction Location

•  Passenger-side side air bag sensor (communication error)

Detection Condition

Warning
•  Detection conditions are for understanding the DTC outline before performing an inspection. Performing an inspection according to only the detection conditions may cause injury due to an operating error, or damage the system. When performing an inspection, always follow the inspection procedure.
•  The passenger-side side air bag sensor monitors the scale of an impact. If the crash event is severe enough for the passenger-side side air bag module to operate (deploy), the sensor will signal the SAS control module to operate (deploy) the passenger-side side air bag. The SAS control module monitors signals which are not within the specification to the passenger-side side air bag sensor. If the SAS control module receives a signal from the passenger-side side air bag sensor which indicates a communication error, it will store DTC U2018 in memory and output a pattern 45 flash to the air bag system warning light.

Possible Cause

•  Wiring harness damage between passenger-side side air bag sensor and SAS control module
•  Passenger-side side air bag sensor damage

Diagnostic Procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Connect the M-MDS.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Using the M-MDS, verify the DTCs and record the past malfunction DTCs.
Is the present malfunction DTC U2018 displayed?
Yes
Note
•  Indicates a hard malfunction. The malfunction is still present. This malfunction cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer displayed.
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent malfunction. The malfunction is not present at this time. Go to Step 9.
2
Warning
•  Handling the components improperly can accidentally deploy the air bags and pre-tensioner front buckle, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the SRS air bag system components.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Refer to the air bag system deactivation procedure and deactivate the system.
Verify that the passenger-side side air bag sensor connector is connected properly.
Is the driver-side side air bag sensor connector connected properly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Connect the connector properly, and go to Step 10.
3
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Disconnect the SAS control module connector.
Disconnect the passenger-side side air bag sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between SAS control module terminal 1H and passenger-side side air bag sensor terminal A.
Note
•  Measure the resistance while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and passenger-side side air bag sensor.
Is the resistance more than 1 ohm?
Yes
Repair the related wiring harness. After repair, go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
4
Measure the resistance between SAS control module terminal 1K and passenger-side side air bag sensor terminal B.
