Removal

Warning

•  All seat belt components including seat belt retractors/buckles/anchors, seat belt shoulder height adjusters (if equipped), child seat anchors, and installation hardware should be inspected after any collision. All seat belt components should be replaced unless a qualified technician finds the components show no damage and operate properly. Seat belt components not in use during a collision should also be inspected and replaced if either damage or improper operation is noted.

Note

•  The driver’s seat is shown in the figure. The passenger’s seat is the same as driver’s seat.

1.  Remove the rear scuff plate.

(1)  Open the cover.

(2)  Remove the two pins.

(3)  Remove the rear scuff plate.

2.  Remove the weatherstrip from the C pillar.

3.  Remove the seat belt anchor.

(1)  Remove the bolt.

(2)  Remove the seat belt anchor.

4.  Release the retaining tab from back of the rear seat belt guide cover, slide the cover up, and remove it.

•  The rear seat belt guide does not appear in the illustration for visual clarity.

5.  Remove the rear seat belt guide.

(1)  Remove the bolt.

(2)  Remove the seat belt guide.

6.  Lower the rear seat back.

7.  Separate the liftgate weatherstrip along the trunk side trim on the side of the seat belt retractor being serviced.

8.  Remove the truck end trim.

(1)  Remove the pin.

(2)  Pull up the trunk end trim to release the clips and remove it.

9.  Pull out the clips and remove the trunk side trim. (See C-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

10.  Remove the rear seat belt retractor.

(1)  Remove the bolts.

(2)  Remove the rear seat belt retractor.

Installation

1.  Install the rear seat belt retractor.

(1)  Position the rear seat belt retractor against the C pillar.

(2)  Install the bolts.

2.  Install the trunk side trim.

Note

•  Before installing, verify that the seat belt is not twisted.

(1)  Position the trunk side trim and feed the seat belt webbing through the opening.

(2)  Push in the trunk side trim and secure it.

3.  Install the trunk end trim.

(1)  Push in the trunk end trim and secure it.

(2)  Install the pins.

4.  Install the liftgate weatherstrip.

5.  Install the spacer to the rear seat belt guide bolt.

6.  Install the rear seat belt guide.

Note

•  Before installing, verify that the seat belt is not twisted.

(1)  Position the seat belt guide.

(2)  Install the bolt.

7.  Install the rear seat belt guide cover.

Note

•  If the seat belt guide cover is damaged or if it does not remain in position, install a new cover.

8.  Raise the rear seat back.

9.  Install the seat belt anchor.

•  Before installing, verify that the seat belt is not twisted.

(1)  Position the seat belt anchor.

(2)  Install the bolt.

10.  Install the weatherstrip to the C pillar.

11.  Install the rear scuff plate.

(1)  Position the rear scuff plate.

(2)  Install the two pins.

(3)  Close the cover.

12.  Inspect the seat belt system for normal operation.

(1)  After installing the rear seat belt retractor, verify that the retractor is not in the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode.

(2)  To verify that the new retractor is operating normally, perform the Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) mode functional test.
