•  Malfunction in the related wiring harness

Diagnostic Procedure

INSPECT GEM DTC
Perform the DTC inspection.
Is the DTC displayed?
Yes
If the DTC B1244 is read, go to Step 4.
If the DTC B1611 is read, go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.

INSPECT WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Does the rear wiper stop operating?
Yes
Replace the wiper and washer switch.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT RELATED WIRING HARNESS FOR SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Disconnect the GEM connector A.
Measure the resistance between wiper and washer switch terminal F and ground.
Measure the resistance between wiper and washer switch terminal J and ground.
Is the voltage more than 10,000 V?
Yes
Go to Step 8.
No
Repair the related wiring harness.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.

INSPECT RELATED WIRING HARNESS FOR SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Disconnect the GEM connector.
Remove the rear wiper relay.
Measure the resistance between GEM terminal 1R and ground.
Is the voltage more than 10,000 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the related wiring harness.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.

INSPECT REAR WIPER RELAY
Inspect the rear wiper relay. (See RELAY INSPECTION.)
Is the rear wiper relay normal?
Yes
Go to Step 8.
No
Replace the rear wiper relay.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.

INSPECT RELATED WIRING HARNESS FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Disconnect the rear wiper motor connector.
Remove the rear wiper relay.
Measure the voltage at rear wiper motor terminal B.
Is the voltage displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair the related wiring harness.

INSPECT REAR WIPER RELAY
Inspect the rear wiper relay. (See RELAY INSPECTION.)
Is the rear wiper relay normal?
Yes
Replace the rear wiper motor. (See REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
No
Replace the rear wiper relay.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.

INSPECT GEM FOR NORMAL OPERATION
Disconnect the GEM connector.
Inspect for the following items:
―  Corrosion
―  Terminal separation
Connect all the connectors and verify that their positions are correct.
Operate the system and inspect for any malfunction.
Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the GEM.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.
No
Verify that the system operates normally at this stage.
The malfunction may result from loose connectors or corrosion.
Clear the DTC.
Repeat the DTC inspection.
