INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PID
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
While monitoring the LFSBELT PID, buckle or unbuckle the driver-side seat belt.
Does the LFSBELT PID indicate “Buckled” when buckling the seat belt and indicate “Unbuckled” when unbuckling it?
Yes
Go to Step 5.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR SWITCH OPERATION
Disconnect the seat belt retractor switch connector.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Connect a jumper wire with a 10 A fuse between seat belt retractor switch terminals A and B (harness-side).
Does the seat belt warning light illuminate?
Yes
Replace the seat belt retractor switch. Inspect the system for normal operation.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO GROUND
Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
Turn the ignition switch off.
Measure the resistance between instrument cluster terminal 1K (harness-side) and seat belt retractor switch terminal A (harness-side).
Measure the resistance between instrument cluster terminal 1K (harness-side) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and seat belt retractor switch, and more than 10,000 ohms between instrument cluster and ground?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness. Inspect the system for normal operation.
4
INSPECT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage between instrument cluster terminal 1K (harness-side) and ground.
Is there voltage?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness. Inspect the system for normal operation.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SIMULATION USING M-MDS
Turn the ignition switch off.
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Select the ALL_LAMP in the simulation items.
Inspect the seat belt warning light.
Does the seat belt warning light illuminate?
Yes
Go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
Inspection:
•  Corrosion
•  Terminal separation
Connect the instrument cluster connector and verify that its position is correct.
Operate the system and inspect for any malfunction.
Is any malfunction still present?
Yes
Replace the instrument cluster. Inspect the system for normal operation.
No
The system operates normally. The malfunction may result from loose connectors or corrosion. Clear the DTC. Repeat the self-test.
