WINDSHIELD REMOVAL

Warning
•  To prevent glass splinters from entering the eyes or cutting hands, wear safety glasses and heavy gloves when cutting the glass from the vehicle. Failure to follow these instructions may cause personal injury.

1.  Open the A-pillar assist handle cover.

2.  Remove the A-pillar assist handle.

(1)  Remove the four bolts.
(2)  Remove the A-pillar assist handle.

3.  Remove the A-pillar trim.

4.  Remove the overhead console.

(1)  Open the console cover.
(2)  Remove the screws.
(3)  Remove the overhead console.
•  If equipped, disconnect the connector.

5.  Remove the two sunvisors and two clips.

(1)  Remove the six screws.
(2)  Remove the sunvisors and clips.

6.  Remove the driver and passenger assist handles.

7.  Remove the rearview mirror (See REARVIEW MIRROR REMOVAL )

8.  Peel back the front portion of the headliner.

9.  Remove the cowl panel.

10.  Apply protective tape along the edge of the body.

11.  Apply protective tape along the edge of the dashboard.

12.  Cut the windshield molding lip using a razor.

Warning
•  Using a razor with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using a razor.
Note
•  The windshield molding is a replacement part.

Not reusing the glass

1.  Cut out the sealant all around the glass to remove the glass using the sealant remover.

Note
•  For the areas of the sealant that are difficult to cut, use SST (piano wire) and follow the procedures under “Reusing the glass”.

Reusing the glass

1.  Make a hole through the sealant using an awl.

2.  Pass the SST (piano wire), cut to sufficient length, through the hole.

Warning
•  Using an SST (piano wire) with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using an SST (piano wire).

3.  Wind each end of SST (piano wire) around a bar.

4.  Fix one end of the SST (piano wire), and while pulling the other end, cut the sealant around the windshield.

Caution
•  If the SST (piano wire) contacts the vehicle body, it may cause damage to the body. Make sure not to allow the SST (piano wire) to touch the body.
Note
•  Use a long sawing action to spread the work over the whole length of the SST (piano wire) to prevent it from breaking due to localized heating.

5.  Remove the windshield.

6.  Remove the windshield molding.
