VALVE SPRING INSPECTION

1. Measure the free length of each valve spring.

• If out of specification, install new components as necessary.

Standard length

43.2 mm {1.701 in}

2. Measure the out-of-square on each valve spring.

• Turn the valve spring and observe the space between the top of the valve spring and the square. Install a new valve spring if out of square.

Standard valve spring height

IN: When pressurized with spring force of 365 N {37kgf, 82 lbf}, spring height 25.1 mm {0.988 in}

3. Use a Valve/Clutch Spring Tester to check the valve spring for correct strength at the specified valve spring length.

• If out of specification, install new components as necessary.
