CYLINDER HEAD COVER (LH) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)]

Removal

1. Remove the three nuts and the engine appearance cover.

2. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover.

3. Remove the three LH coil-on-plugs.

(1) Disconnect the connector.

(2) Remove the bolt.

(3) Disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the wiring harness from the valve cover studs.

5. Remove the engine lift bracket.

6. Remove the bolts, studs and the LH valve cover.

(1) Remove and discard the gasket if damaged.

Installation

1. Position a new gasket on the valve cover.

2. Apply a 5 mm {0.20 in} dot of Silicone Gasket Sealant to the front cover to cylinder head joints.

Note

• The valve cover must be installed and the bolts tightened within six minutes of applying the sealant.

3. Position the valve cover and install the studs and the bolts in the sequence shown.

4. Position the engine lift bracket and install the bolt.

5. Connect the wiring harness to the valve cover studs.

6. Install the three LH coils-on-plug.

(1) Position the coil.

(2) Install the bolt.

(3) Connect the connector.

7. Connect the crankcase ventilation tube to the valve cover.

8. Install the three nuts and the engine appearance cover.
