Fuel Pump Operation Inspection

1. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.

2. Remove the fuel-filler cap.

3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

4.•  Using the "FP" simulation function, verify the fuel pump operation sound when the fuel pump relay is turned from off to on.

• If there is no operation sound, verify that there is battery voltage applied to the fuel pump wiring harness-side connector terminal 1.

- If the battery voltage is applied, perform the following.
• Fuel pump continuity inspection
- If the battery voltage is not applied, inspect the following.
• FPR
• Wiring harnesses and connectors between the main relay, FPR, fuel pump stop switch, and fuel pump unit
Standard
Battery voltage (ignition switch ON)

Hold Pressure Inspection

Warning
• Fuel line spills and leakage from the pressurized fuel system are dangerous. To prevent this, complete the following inspection with the engine stopped.

1. Perform the 'Fuel Line Safety Procedure' referring to the BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3.• Disconnect the fuel tank side fuel pipe quick release connector from the fuel filter (high-pressure). (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

4. Position the SST lever 90 × to the hose to plug the outlet of the SST.

5. Insert the SST quick release connector into the fuel pipe until a click is heard.

6. Verify that the installation is secured by pulling the quick release connector.

7. Prevent fuel spillage by placing the fuel hose outlet (rubber hose) of the SST into a container.

8. Connect the negative battery cable.

9. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

10. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.

11. Using the "FP" simulation function, turn the fuel pump relay from off to on and maintain it for 10 min.

12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position and measure the fuel pressure after 5 min.

• If it is not within the specification, inspect the following:
- Fuel filter (low-pressure) clogging
- Fuel line clogging or leakage
Standard
0.408 MPa {4.16 kgf/cm2, 59.2 psi} or more

13. Disconnect the jumper wire.

14. Perform the 'Fuel Line Safety Procedure' referring to the BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].

15. Disconnect the SST.

16. Connect the quick release connector. (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

17. Inspect all parts by performing the AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION. (See AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
